How To Choose Bathroom Blinds
Bathroom is one of the most delicate rooms in a home, when it comes to choosing accessories like window treatments. What makes this choice so difficult? Let’s see:
- Bathroom windows size and positioning: if your windows are large and your bathroom has a direct view to a neighboring building, privacy is the first element you should consider when choosing your window coverings. They have to be opaque to human sight, yet translucent in a certain degree, in order to allow the light to enter your bathroom. Otherwise, you’ll have to turn on the lights even during daylight. If your bathroom only ha one small window, positioned very high, in such a way that you can’t be seen from outside, you don’t need a window covering at all. Maybe a mosquito screen would be a good idea, to provide you a mosquito-free bathing experience.
- Window-sink or window-bath tub relative distance: if the window is nearby the sink or the bath tub, you should avoid heavy, folded curtains, because they absorb humidity and never have the chance to dry, therefore they’d soon become the kingdom of mold and mildew. This can be detrimental to your health and if you or one of your family members is allergic, you’ve got a real trouble.
- Style: there are people who spend a lot of time in the bathroom, and I don’t mean only those ones who are suffering from constipation. I mean those guys and girls who love to spend time in a comfortable, warm bath tub, filled with perfumed water, with bath foam and with small scented candles all around. So, match the bathroom blinds with the other decor elements and with the overall style of the room.
The best option, at least for my case, are window blinds, without any kind of curtain. I’ve chosen horizontal blinds made of faux wood, with average size slats. So far, they are behaving pretty well, but I’ve read in a home improvement magazine that they tend to get warped after a while when exposed to high humidity. I think I should have chosen those bamboo roller blinds, but at that time I didn’t know that bamboo actually loves water.
